RE: Scampton

#1
I see the Scampton Exchange finally came online today!

I also see a lot of Welton Cabinets online today.

Any idea on the Scampton Cabinets? I'm cabinet 4

Thanks
#2
Good Morning Nathan,
Thanks for taking time to write in.
The Scampton cabinets are very close to completion and I would expect them to be online within the next two weeks. Should they go live during this week, we will update the website on Friday accordingly.

Good morning Steve,

Thankyou for the information. Do you have an update on this all. Looking forward to getting much better broadband. I'm on cabinet 3.

Many Thanks
#4
HI Samuel,

Thanks for getting in touch. The good people of Scampton are clearly very keen to see the upgrades and I had hoped to have had news of completion by now. We may get some news before the weekend, we normally get updates from BT on Thursdays, but failing that, it will be very soon after Easter.

I am also on Cabinet 3, I look forward to a change of internet pace quite soon then.

Hi Steve

Thank you for getting back to us. Has their been any news today at all.

Good morning,

Is there any news / completion date for the Scampton cabinets?

Cabinet 4, which is the one i'm connected too, is, i think on RAF Scampton, i wondered if this could affect whether it will be upgraded?
#9
Good Afternoon Bryan,

Cabinet 4 in Scampton is seeing slight delays due to BT attempting to obtain a Wayleave permission to build the upgraded cabinet. Tracking down the current landowner for the particular site is an issue but will be resolved shortly. It will not affect the upgrade of this cabinet. as soon as we have further news we will update the website.

Regards
Steve
#10
Cabinet 4 is the one outside the Spar shop.
Most of the land around here is owned by the MOD or Annington with the managing company being Preim.

Hope to see this completed soon!
#11
Is there an update on cabinet 4 at all?
#12
Good Morning William.

Cabinet 4 requires some cable to be ploughed across some fields to provide the main feed. work is ongoing, but will be completed shortly. I should have the latest update later this week.

Hi, has there been any further update on Scampton cabinet 4, estimated date of completion maybe?

#14
Good Morning Will,

We have been chasing Wayleave permission to locate the new Cab on site. I spoke with the Squadron Leader yesterday and he is chasing this personally so hope to get permission very soon. as soon as we do, we can complete the cab. Realistically, this will be several weeks but please keep in touch and we will keep you posted.

Hello can you tell me if cabinet 2 will be enabled and if so what is the timescale? Many thanks
#16
The Wayleave for Cabinet 4 Scampton (located RAF Base) was signed today and this allows us to progress the build of this cabinet. we will update as we progress

Hi Sue,

I can confirm cabinet 2 is still in the rollout plan, unfortunately there has been a delay due to additional work being required to replace broken ducting.
The cabinet has not slipped out of phase 2 so will still be deployed by the end of September, I will check the progress and update you again once I have a more accurate timescale.

Yo Steve

Any news on Cab4 im itching to get me some UberSpeed!!!
#19
Good Morning Reece,

The Wayleave on Cab. 4 has been signed off and work commenced. We believe it will be completed before the end of July, but could be earlier, depending on the intricacies of the power connection.
We should have more news at this Thursday's meeting.

Dear Steve,

As a resident of Ingham I believe that I'm served by Scampton exchange cabinet 1. I was wondering if you would be able to advise when I might be able to expect a better Broadband service?

Am I also correct in understanding that as I currently have an 'up to 8mbps' service, but am currently only able to receive 2mbps, I will notice a significant improvement without having to upgrade my service provider or package? I realise that upgrading the package would allow for over 8mbps (ie super fast Broadband) and that would incur cost through my ISP.

Many thanks
#21
Good Afternoon Michael,

Thanks for writing in to us.

Other than Cabinet 4, the outstanding Scampton cabinets, including Cabinet 1, are awaiting a new length of cable to be installed. We have had to recover a redundant cable from an existing duct line and we are hopeful that all work will be complete within the next 2 weeks.

Cabinet 4 is subject to a Wayleave on the MoD site, but this has been resolved and work is ongoing.

In terms of your existing package, you will not normally receive an automatic upgrade in speed. You will need to talk with your ISP and ask them to give you the fastest available speed within your existing contract. It could well be worth looking at a faster option, because we are hearing that faster speeds can occasionally be zero cost in terms of paying extra.

As soon as the Scampton cabinets go 'Live' we will update our website.

Regards
Steve
#22
@Michael

Just to let you know, these upgrades allow FTTC (Fibre to the cabinet) connections. So once the upgrade is complete, you will still receive the same speed with your ADSL connection if you make no changes. If you want a faster connection, then you'll be able to sign up to a Fibre package with an 'upto speed' of 38 or 76mbs.

This is because fibre does not require you to be close to your exchange for speed (like ADSL requires), it is done via the cabinet. So the closer you are to your cabinet, the more likely your Fibre speed will be higher.

This graph shows quite nicely the speed vs distance of FTTC connections

http://www.increasebroadbandspeed.co.uk/2013/chart-bt-fttc-vdsl2-speed-against-distance

Hope this helps!

Will
#23
Thank you both for your replies, I'm pleased to hear that the cabinet will be ready soon.

Just so that I'm clear though, with the work that will be soon completed, would I still be stuck with 2mbps unless I upgrade, or would I get closer to the 8mbps advertised speed?

I do plan to upgrade to a faster plan in due course, just wondering what to expect when the work is complete.

Thanks again!
#24
Your speed will stay the same for ADSL as the distance from your house to exchange is the same. Fibre to the Cabinet connections means the only distance that matters is your house to the street cabinet but again, that only applies to Fibre.
#25
Edit to the above:

Having looked at the link posted above, it looks like 8mbps is about as fast as it can get anyway as I live over 3km from the cabinet.

So even the best package would still only get me what I have been paying or the last 5 years.
#26
Hi Michael,

If your distance is correct, then yes, you are right in what you say, but if you currently get above 2Mb/s, they will still upgrade you to the fastest available.
That said, we are looking at an alternative technology where we move the 'Electronics' closer to the end user, thus cutting down the length of copper. this is still going through evaluation/approval etc. but could still form an important part of the second element of this programme.

Steve

Good Morning
Is there any new updates on when to expect cabinet 4 to be up and running?

Many thanks
Will
#28
Good Morning Will,

Please accept pour apologies for the delay on Scampton 4. We had a bit of a battle getting the wayleave agreed at the base, but this has been signed off and a site meeting held to agree the route of the new duct. We are confident of completion within a few weeks at most and I will get an update on Thursday.

Hello Steve

just checking where we at with the scampton 4 cab?

Reece
#30
Good Morning Reece,

We are awaiting the power supply at the cabinet, having now agreed where we will pick it up from. work is ongoing and a couple of weeks will sort it. Delays incurred after we agreed the wayleave with the power connection, but I am assured this is now resolved.

Good evening,

I was wondering if there was any news yet on Scampton cabinet 1? I believe it was estimated to be ready a few weeks ago?

Many thanks
#32
Good Morning Michael,

I know that BT are having to pull in a long length of new fibre over and above what was originally planned. work is ongoing, but I have asked them for an idea of completion time and will get back to you as soon as I get an answer.

Regards
Steve
#33
Hi Michael,

BT are having to work on the network at weekends to complete the build. They believe they will complete by 8th August and then the cabinet will be available to Internet Services Providers around 2 weeks later, so probably looking at third or fourth week in August.
We will update the website (normally on a Friday Afternoon) as soon as it is complete and ready for you to take an upgrade.

Steve
#34
Hello, just checking if Scampton cabinet 2 is still on schedule for completion by end of September? Thank you :)
#35
Hi Sue,

Thanks for getting in touch. We are currently providing the last fibre links into Scampton and are confident of completion by the end of September as planned. We are hoping for earlier, but will get the latest update at the end of the week.

Rather frustratingly, I am now told we have a Power Wayleave at Scampton Cab. 4 on the MOD site. This is somewhat disappointing in that we had previously discussed this site with MOD and sorted out the Wayleave for the cabinet itself. We will go back to them today and try to get this resolved urgently.

#37
Just reading the updates on Scampton Cabinet 4 and it reminds me of the Fawlty Towers episode where they had the builders in lol.
#38
Good Morning Bryan,

Wouldn't argue with your comments. We eventually persuaded the military to grant Wayleave for the new cabinet only to find that we arrived at the same position with the power wayleave. That has now been resolved, but it is frustrating when what seems to be a straightforward issue, is bogged down with more Red Tape.
Hopefully we will complete very soon and thanks to everyone for their patience on this one.

steve
#39
Latest on Scampton 4 is as follows:

Power Wayleave has now been finally agreed and we are looking to have this cabinet completed by the end of September. Not great news I know, but we have finally removed the main obstacle of the Wayleave. Thanks to everyone for their patience.

steve

Glad to hear that things are moving forward, but I was wondering if there is any news on Scampton cabinet 1?

Thanks,
Michael
#41
Hi Michael,

Cabinet 1 was subject to the provision of a long length of additional cable. I have sent a request to BT today and will update as soon as we get the latest.

Regards
steve
#42
Sorry, but i noticed a lot of markings on the grass/road and pavements along the top end of Pollyplatt Lane on Scampton, does this mean that we will be getting new cables meaning a lot faster broadband around Dorset place, as my current speeds are 0.2Mbps upload and 0.5Mbps download and this is most frustrating, especially for any general internet use.

Kindest regards

Paul
#43
Good Morning Paul,
Thanks for writing in to us. The location you describe is the new site for the proposed upgrade to Cabinet No. 4. sadly, this cabinet has been a real problem in terms of firstly getting a Wayleave from MOD to locate the cabinet and secondly to get another Wayleave from them to provide a power supply.
Anyway, those issues are now resolved and we can crack on and get this cabinet upgraded. Power supply is due this month so hopefully, we are looking at or around the end of this month. As soon as we get this completed we will update the website (normally on a Friday Afternoon) and from there, you will need to contact your Internet Service Provider. Please be assured that we are pushing as hard as possible on this one.

Regards
steve
#44
Hi Michael,

Cabinet 1 off Scampton is now 'Live'. From here, you will need to contact your ISP
to see what they can offer.

#45
Hi Steve,

I just wanted to say thank you for updating me with this. BT have advised me that I can expect 75-80mbps on their' infinity 2' package which is about 10x what I was expecting! I was sceptical but they checked the line and confirmed that was what I could expect. I should have it all installed in a few weeks so am looking forward to trying this out.

Thanks again,

Michael

Hi Michael,

Good luck and please enjoy the improvements.

hi

Any further update for Cabinet 4 in Scampton please? Will it be resolved by the end of September?

Good Morning Robin,

I have a meeting with BT this morning so I will get the latest from them. I do know we are very close on this one, but I will update this forum later.

Hi Steve,
Have we got any further update on cab 4. Dare I ask if there's an end date yet?

#50
Good Morning William,

Last night. we finally received a Wayleave from the MOD to install power to the new cabinet. as far as we are concerned, that's the last piece of this rather complex jigsaw. We are pressing the power guys to install and we will complete immediately afterwards. As soon as I get a date for the power, I will publish, but we are finally moving on this one. Thanks to everyone for their continued patience on this one.

Morning Stephen

First off, thanks for being so attentive with all the above requests, we all appreciate the attention and dedications you have shown for us in getting the Scampton cabinets online, and the constant work your putting in with the back and forth with BT.

I can see that the actual ground work has commenced on cabinet 4, and work seems to be going well. Do you know if there is a planned date for the work to finish, and how longer after the ground work the cabinet will be verified and then upgrades available?

Thanks again for the hard work

James
#52
Good Morning James,

Many thanks for your very kind comments.

The latest conversation I had with BT was that they are looking to power up the new cabinet sometime next week. From there, they will finalise the fibre connections and commission it.
Following the commissioning of the cabinet, there is normally a 2 week delay after the cab has been passed to all Internet Service Providers and service becomes available to all. The 2 weeks delay is to allow the providers to update their systems to reflect availability.
Realistically, I would think service fully available before the end of this month. We are pressing hard and BT are doing everything they can to bring it in as soon as possible, so it could be sooner.
We will update as soon as it goes 'Live'.
Thanks to everyone for their continued patience and understanding.

I've noticed that Scampton Cabinet 4 has hit a bump in the road. Do we know how long it will take or time-scales for the new power ducting?

Thanks

James
#54
Good Morning James,

We are having some fun and games with Scampton Cabinet 4 and that's for sure.

We do need to provide some ducting for the power feed but the duct has been planned and job issued. I am not aware of any 'Legal' issues holding up work, so we can progress urgently. I have asked BT for an ETA and will update as soon as I get a specific date.

Did BT come back to you with any dates yet? I've noticed there has been more work on the cabinet and surrounding area this week (laying the new power ducting perhaps?).

Thanks

James
#57
Hi James

I have just had some correspondence from BT in relation to Scampton 4. We believe that the power is now connected and the cablers are completing the last section of fibre. Once the fibre has been jointed the cabinet can be confirmed as ready for service. The cabinet should be able to accept customers two weeks after this, so hopefully it won't be long now

Kind regards

Is there any more news on the long running saga that is Scampton Cabinet 4?

Is there a glimmer of hope on the horizon that Scampton residents may soon be able to leave the Victorian era and experience the 21st century internet?
#59
I too would love an update on this.

Can I also ask what happened to the weekly project updates? They used to be so details and full of information regarding ongoing cabinets. The last few weeks it just seems to be what has been completed rather than an update on what has happened on the project that week...which would essentially stop posts like this one, and Bryans :0)

Here's hoping to good news soon (and not another 2 week estimate lol).

Thanks again, look forward to your update Stephen/Naomi

for those of you who cant find the report page

"Scampton 4 - This is due for completion on the 16th November. The cabinet will then be ready for service (RFS) – will be able to take orders 2 weeks after this."

/sigh
#62
Oh dear, more Scampton cabinet 4 fun. This really has been a nightmare from start to finish :0(

Michael/Naomi: Do we know how long a delay it might be to sort out the new ducting?

Thanks

James
#63
I see this cabinet is now subject to yet another delay, is there any kind of expected completion date for the extra work required?
#64
Good Morning Bryan,

From what I'm told, the duct coming to the cabinet has been crushed by some work at a nearby school. BT has identified the problem and need permission from the school to sort it out. Assuming the school agree, we will still finish before Xmas at the latest.

My apologies for this further delay, but these are issues that we would not have known about until we tried to complete the work.

as soon as we get the nod from the school, I will update this site.

Regards
steve
#65
Hi James,

Hopefully I've answered your query in my response to Bryan above. We are pushing BT on this one and I will update as we move along.
Please accept my apologies.

Stephen

Things look promising! I can only assume that the unblocking worked all ok on Saturday as we've had an engineer at the new cabinet today doing some work. Could it be that they have now fully terminated the fibre? Or are we onto the next problem lol :0)

All in jest I assure you, I know none of the problems we've had here are anyone's fault.

Thanks

James
#67
Hi James,

Many thanks for the update. We have had more than our fair share of problems with this cabinet, but I'm informed we are on the last laps of what has been a very long race.

Thanks to everyone for their ongoing patience and support.

Steve
#68
Good Morning,

Scampton Cabinet 4 is now engineering complete (RFS) and should be in a position to allow everyone to place orders with their Internet Service Providers in around 2 weeks time. You may see an update that comes out on our weekly update page that shows delays on this cabinet, but those were posted yesterday and timed to release later today, so please disregard any news re. Scampton 4, unless it states what I have said above.

It's been something of a battle with this one, but looks like we finally got there, thanks to everyone for their ongoing patience and support.

Regards
Steve

Steve

Thanks for the update. So are we now saying around 2 weeks from today? It seemed the update from last week also said "...within 2 weeks"...scrolling up there are also a lot of "2 more weeks" posts as well.

If we have a definitive "around 2 weeks" this time I would be happy. I know this is not your fault in anyway and you are doing a bang up job of keeping us updated so I appreciate any additional information you could give us.

Thanks

James
#70
Hi James,

Thanks very much and I fully understand your point.

BT has informed me this morning that the cabinet is what they call 'RFS', the next stage is 'CRFS' which is two weeks after RFS and it is at this point that you can talk to your ISP. We will announce CRFS as soon as it hits that point.

Regards
steve

Hi all, I'm on cab 4 and placed my order with bt for infinity yesterday. That's the good news, bad news is it won't be done till mid January. It's been a long wait but at least I have an end date now. Thanks for the updates along the way
#72
Good Afternoon,

Just comfirmed that Scampton 4 is now taking orders. Thanks to everyone for their continued patience on this one.

You will now need to talk to your Internet Service Provider to see what they can offer.
