North Scarle

When checking on the postcode checker north scarle details do not now appear.
What is the current situation regarding cabinet 1 for Spalford exchange?
#2
Hello Paul,

There are no specific issues I am aware of that should stop North Scarle post codes returning information on the post code checker, but if you can provide me with the post code(s) you used I will look into the matter.

Spalford 1 is currently planned for deployment in phase 2 (April - September 2014).

Kind regards,

It is somewhat frustrating that there is no detail whatsoever regarding progress of implementation - other than 6 month window.
From my own obervations related to Cabinet 1 I conclude that:
- Ducting has been installed from exchange to cabinet
- NGA Cabinet has been installed
- Power to NGA cabinet has been installed

Good Morning Paul,

Thanks for writing in to us.

We are currently publishing weekly updates of when cabinets go 'Live' which we feel is useful.
In terms of detailed updates per cabinet, there are many facets to the successful completion of a cabinet and the progress of the various tasks associated can change by the day with localised conditions. We do have an idea of roughly when cabinets will go 'Live' but until they are fully tested and passed to the Internet Service Providers, there are a numbers of things that can cause delay at the last minute. Should we declare a 'Go Live' date and it subsequently fails, we will raise expectations only to fail to deliver at the last.
Under the existing process, BT will not declare 'Live' until it has gone through an Ofcom approved process.
We will continue to update weekly as cabs come on line.

Steve

My apologies for the lack of an update. I have a meeting with BT tomorrow and will get the latest from them.

Hi Michael,

Cabinet 1 at spalford is being re-planned as the result of an intial requirement for 3Km of new duct. this is currently in planning and we will get an update in around 2 weeks.

Is this work to provide service to the exchange or to the cabinet? I see there is work scheduled on Roadworks.org for 19th Sept junct wigsley road/Spalford road - thogh this may be unconnected.
Am I right in thinking that Spalford will be just a child exchange with no NGA equipment installed there?
#9
Hi Paul,

To answer your questions in reverse order; Spalford is a child exchange and will be glassed through to the parent exchange. On that basis, the NGA equipment will be in the parent exchange.
However, this makes no difference in terms of delivering upgraded capacity to the Spalford cabinets.
I know BT are having to provide new ducts as a result of re-planning, but I will ask for more detail and get back to you as soon as I get a response.

Steve

HI, I'm a resident in South Clifton which is served by Spalford Exchange. I read in the Newark Advertiser today (19th Sept) that upgrading to Fibre at Spalford will be carried out by the Lincolnshire project. If so where can I get more info please?

I understand that two weeks ago the 're-planning' to get around the problems encountered was complete and that the spine work had now commenced.
Do we have a time scale on this work as on the surface nothing seems to be happening.

Thanks,

Paul

Good Morning Paul,

I have a meeting with BT tomorrow and will get the latest view from them at that point. We will update the website on Friday with the information we get.

I see that you are reporting that:
Spalford 1 - With planner for re-route. Escalated this week
I was informed that this HAD been replanned and work had commenced.
So that is not the case?
It is very disppointing that this cabinet - which has been stood and powered since April - seems to have been overtaken by work being carried out ahead of schedule in other areas.
This does not give me great confidence in the degree of 'planning' carried out to achieve a timely solution to getting this overdue cabinet RFS.
#19
Hi I am very confused with this can you give a ball park date when North scarle will get high speed internet? We have had the cabinet fitted since April and a time slot of April to September this now looks like it will never happen this year your comments please Mr Bookes
#20
Good Morning Paul,

Please see latest comments from BT below.

'Spalford 1 is in the process of being issued to the field teams. As we have had the cable route re-planned to a more cost effective solution, there is still some external work to be undertaken in the various exchange cable chambers to route the fibre through to the cabinet.'

The work is currently being issued following a re-plan. We replanned due to diffculties with the existing route that would have cost a significant amount of money to rectify. On that basis, we looked at the potential costs and reasoned that they were excessive and that an alternative should be sought. We are driven very hard by the need to deliver cost efficiencies and we whilst we are attempting to deliver upgrades to everyone as soon as possible, cost has to be a huge consideration.
My apologies for the onging delay, but we are working to close out this out as soon as possible.

Regards
Steve

Good Morning Mr Peever,

Please see comments in the above response to Paul Cobb.

Unfortunately, with this cabinet, we experienced significant infrastructure difficulties which, had we taken the existing planned toute, would have resulted in very high costs to complete the work. Whilst time is a major factor, cost to complete has to be taken into account and where costs to complete are too high, we will attempt to find an alternative solution or worst case scenario, take the cabinet out of the programme.

Fortunately, in this case we look to have found an alternative and will drive as hard as we can to complete.

I see Spalford is now list as
SLSPD SPALFORD FTTC Dec-14 Newark and Sherwood District
on BT's latest exchange rollout spreadsheet
another 3 months.
#23
Hi Paul seems like the next date is December then. we have had problems just with the phone and was told the spalford exchange is in urgent need of an update.Did you know that when it is here you need a different modem,so not an upgrade but a whole new system
#24
Hi Stephen,

It would seem that updates on cabinets that have failed to be delivered within the planned phase have 'fallen off' the weekly updates.
I am sure that you realise that it is very frustrating to have no information or no updates on these late cabinets for their prospective users.
A line for each on the weekly update would be good (as you did on 26th September) and this may help to focus activities on getting these crossed off.
Regular updates will also help to answer the repeated questions as to the status of these cabinets outstanding from previous phases.

Regards,

Paul

Hello Paul

An update on Cabinets was provided on the 10th October if this helps? We will publish another list this week but due to unforeseen circumstances our normal method of collating this information has been disrupted of late.

Kind regards

Naomi,

Thanks for the comment.
The updates need to be weekly IMHO.
Only then will we see when and if any progress is actually being made.
A regular report is needed rather than an ad-hoc update.
We as the end-users have no where else to find this infomation and as you can imagine if you are one of these prospective users looking for the current status on an overdue cabinet from a past phase - no information is not acceptable.

Good Morning Paul,

We will get the latest from BT at Thursday's meeting and will update following that.

We deal with over 550 cabinets on this programme and will update on problem cabinets as and when things physically change. Spalford cabinet No.1 is work in progress and we will try to get an indicative timescale on Thursday.

Regards
Steve
#28
Steve,

Thanks for your comment.
I look forward to your update on timescale.

Good Morning Paul

As previously discussed, the work associated with this cabinet has been re-planned. This work is out with the field teams at present who are progressing the build. As we previously mentioned we have over 550 cabinets to deal with, and whilst the vast majority go to plan there are unfortunately some instances where we come across a wide range of engineering/localised difficulties which have to be dealt with in different ways. We will continue to monitor this cabinet and provide updates as the situation progressed and changes. At this point in time we are unable to provide an exact date for the completion of this cabinet.

Naomi

Spalford 1 – All infrastructure complete – now need to splice through Lincoln exchange, Birchwood exchange and Welton exchange to bring light to this cabinet.

Great news :-)
#31
Good morning on lincolshire.org great news in your update the splice has been done, and within two weeks we can order the updated service. Thank you for your support
#32
Steve,

I see from your latest update that the RFS date is 'drifting'.
Any feedback on the reasons for this?

Thanks

Paul
#33
Good Morning Paul,

We had a few issues with one of the fibre lengths. this has now been rectified and we expect this to go RFS by the end of the month.

Regards
Steve
#34
... the cabinet is now expected to be RFS at the end of December – two weeks after this it will be ‘customer ready for service’ and products can be brought from it.

Has this taken place ?

Thanks,

Paul
#35
Good Afternoon Paul,

I will get confirmation at the beginning of next week and update the site accordingly.

Does the new year bring us some good news?

Hi Paul,

We have sent a request to BT and as soon as the update arrives, I will post on here. My apologies for the ongoing delays.

Good morning Steve,

Did you get a response from BT on this issue?

Thanks,

Paul
#39
Hi Paul,

They were due to finish the new duct at the weekend and are scheduled to complete the fibre splicing today and tomorrow. assuming they complete as planned, we should be good to complete within this month.

Good morning Steve,

I note your response to another poster regarding accuracy of reporting and updates

"We have had concerns recently with some of the updates we have been getting and are pressing them harder to give more accurate and realistic updates".

Regarding Spalford 1 - this seems to be two steps forward one step backwards at each update.
05/12/14 Spalford 1 – BT expect this to be 'ready for service' (RFS) next week – two weeks after this it will be ‘customer ready for service’ and products can be brought from it.
24/12/14 Spalford 1 – BT expected this to be 'ready for service' (RFS) Friday 12th December. This date has drifted out slightly and the cabinet is now expected to be RFS at the end of December – two weeks after this it will be ‘customer ready for service’ and products can be brought from it.
09/01/15 Spalford 1 – New ducting is required –booked in with the contractors this Saturday, jointing Monday 12th Jan.
16/01/15 Spalford 1 –Minor ducting works still required but majority of works completed.

More than 3 months after the end of phase 2 if this is to be believed then we ought to be RFS now - is that the case?

Thanks

Paul
#41
Good Morning Paul,

I understand your frustration and you have emphasised the point I was making to the other person in the article you mention above. Reporting accuracy is a concern and we are doing everything we can to eliminate it.

I have asked for the latest from BT and will update as soon as I get the answer.

Regards
Steve
#42
Hi Steve,

Have you managed to obtain the current status?

Thanks

Paul
#43
hi steve happy new year
two weeks ago you informed us that ducting work would take place on the Saturday which true to your word the workman turned up dug one hole and filled it in then marked the grass with a spray can as to where the ducting should go and left this took 1 hour
since then not a lot has happened i wonder if you can update us as last week it was minor ducting to be done

thanks for all your help

mike
#44
Good Morning Mike,

Thanks and a Happy New Year to you too.

Paul, hope you don't mind, but wanted to answer both queries in one mesage.

I am told that the civils team will be returning early next week to complete. I will call them first thing Monday to make sure they are still intending to be there.

Regards
steve
#45
Thank you for the reply Steve without you we would be in the dark I will keep a look out for the team.

Mike
#46
Steve,

Do we have a confirmed ETA on the civils?

Thanks

Paul
#47
Steve,

I see from roadworks.org that

30 Jan - 3 Feb
School Lane, North Scarle,...
Responsibility for these works: BT
Information for Operational Teams
Location: OUTSIDE 2 , SCHOOL LANE
Description: Perform 1 reinstatement activity
Works ref: BC005WP00400500168014502
Current status: Advanced planning

That will be another 3 weeks of inactivity then!

Regards,

Paul
Data source: BT
#48
Good Morning Paul,

I will get the very latest from BT at tomorrow's meeting and update from there. Having said that, I note from your comments that the activity being planned is reinstatement which tells me that the excavation has already been completed.
Civils contractors will often temporarily reinstate smaller excavations and then come back and complete as a part of a bigger localised reinstatement programme.

Steve

Hi Steve,

Last week you reported that
Spalford 1 – This should be Ready for Service by the end of next week - two weeks after this customers can order products
This week you reported the same
Spalford 1 – Should be 'Ready for Service' this week. Approximately two weeks after this, products can be ordered from it.

There is not much left of this week!
Has the target been met?

Thanks,
Paul
