New Cabinets at Metheringham

#1
I have been told that one or more new cabinets have been put in place on the Metheringham exchange to serve those who were/are still on a exchange only line. My question is would onlincolnshire know the cabinet numbers for them?

The reason I ask is because on the line checker I do not get given a cabinet number, it just says conected to the exchange, however if these cabinets are going be put in for people currently with exchange only lines, I would like to know the cabinet number so I can see when they go live on the updates page.

Thanks

James

Good Morning James

A number of cabinets have already gone 'Live' in Metheringham and these are listed on the website.

However, I will forward your specific request to BT to get the latest on Metheringham. I will get back to you as soon as I get the latest.

Hi James

The Cabinet number applicable to you is Cabinet 13. This is currently built and awaiting a power connection to allow us to complete it. BT are prioritising this at the moment and we will update the website when this cabinet goes 'Live'.

hi
may I ask if this will have any bearing on BB speed at Digby (currently 1 Mbps)?
I understand that Digby is served by two cabinets but do not know which one serves my line.
Many thanks

Steve,

Will the new cabinet (number 13) serve/replace ALL of the existing exchange only lines at Metheringham?

Thanks

James
#7
Hi James,

I will need to speak with BT on that one. From experience, EO lines can often radiate from an Exchange in different directions and on that basis, would need more than one cabinet to be built. They would need to consult their network schematics, but I will ask the question.

Hi Steve

Is there any update on Metheringham Cabinet 13? Any info from BT would be useful.

Thanks

Mike

PS - If BT are still sorting out the power supply, I have a long extension lead they can borrow, and I'm happy to start digging! :-P

Good Morning Mike,

I have a meetng with BT in the morning so should get the latest.

In the interim, please hold off with the shovel.

Hi Steve

Anything to report from BT? I'm struggling with a large data project and it would help my planning to know if there is any sign of an RFS date for Metheringham 13.

Thanks

Hi Mike,

Here's the latest as promised.

The cabinet is an Exchange Only Cabinet (EO) and all work is complete other than the clearance of a blockage in a duct on the Copper side of the cabinet. This is in hand and all will be completed shortly. We will take a look again during next week to see if we have a specific date at that point, but we are very close to completion now.

Hi Mike

This cabinet is now complete as far as engineering etc. is concerned. It is going through to CRFS over the next week or so and will ready either next week or the week after. As soon as it goes 'Live' we will update the website.

Hi Steve

Yes, there's been lots going on over the last few days and our line was rejointed through to the cabinet this afternoon. One or two people have been asking for updates so I'll pass on the message.

All the best,

Mike

Hi Steve

Would you be able to clear up the current situation with all users connected to the Metheringham exchange?

On the My Area page of this website it currently states "More detail will be available for your postcode (LN4 3TW) once work starts. Please note that due to the complexity of bringing superfast broadband to Lincolnshire, all details are subject to change. Your area is currently planned for Phase 4, so improved broadband should be available between October 2014 and March 2015".

This would suggest that work is yet to start on the upgrade in the area. This is echoed somewhat by the BT Open Reach checker which also states, "Under review - We’re in your area but we’re still assessing whether or not we can upgrade your cabinet. This means you can’t order Superfast Fibre"

However I came across this statement from BT regarding the Metheringham exchange, "Metheringham Exchange Is Fibre Enabled - Exciting news for customers who are connected to the Metheringham exchange, as most customers on this exchange can now upgrade from ADSL to fibre internet, including BT Infinity and Sky Fibre Broadband. Check to see if your street cabinet has been enabled for fibre (FTTC) here. Upgrade to BT Infinity before Monday 22nd September 2014 and new BT customers will receive a £50 Sainsbury's Gift Card if they sign up to BT Infinity. Faster connections are guaranteed via BT Infinity and Plusnet's fibre products compared to ADSL."

Would you be able to clarify the exact state of play with the state of the upgrade and when work is expected to be finished, if not finished already? I'm due to move into the area in the next fortnight so I'm very new to Lincolnshire's internet issues.

Many thanks

Richard

I am on exchange only connection right now. I found the site below today. Having read the relevant bits I then went onto BT site to order fibre broadband. After getting error messages, I contacted BT in live chat. the outcome being that they told me the the go-live date for my number would be early 2015, with no explanantion of reason for delay. Is anyone any the wiser?

Hi,

Noticed that Metheringham cabinet 13 is listed as live in this weeks update. At what point will BT make it possible to order if connected to this cabinet as currently they still state this us under review and orders are not available.

Thanks,
Stephen

Hi Stephen,

Thanks for getting in touch. When BT has decalred it ready, it is normally with all ISPs to offer services. It should now be available, but it could just be a little slow coming on line with them. Probably best to give it a day or two and if it still isn't happening, please let me know and I will chase them.

Hi Steve

The dslchecker has been updated to show migrated Metheringham lines as hosted by Cabinet 13, but does not yet show FTTC as available. I assume that acceptance work is still ongoing within Openreach?

Mike
#22
Good Morning Mike,

BT declared the cabinet as ready to accept FTTC orders last week so I am somewhat dismayed that you still can't do this. I have them in for ameeting this morning and will get an answer and post here later. I suspect it is imminent and a case of their systems catching up.

Hi Mike,

I have spoken with BT and they have confirmed that this cabinet is now fibre enabled from an engineering perspective. Apparently, because it was an EO (Exchange Only) feed and they built a new cabinet to change the configuration, this particular scenario adds a little bit more delay than normal to Internet Service Providers declaring it available.

It is worth checking again in a couple of days where it should show FTTC as available at that point.

Hi Steve,
Any news on cabinet 3 from Metheringham exchange ?
I live at Nocton.
Regards,
Jim.
#27
Good afternoon Jim,

Thanks for writing in.

Metheringham Cab. 3 went 'Live' in July, but looking at where it is in relation to Nocton, it's possible you are too far away to benefit.

Can you please E Mail me your landline telephone number, your full address etc. to my address below (in confidence) and I will take a closer look.

BT certainly seeming to be dragging their heels a bit in making cabinet 13 available for order, still unable to do so as of today and Openreach site still shows the cabinet as under review.

Good Morning Steve,

Sadly, I have to agree with you. They are in with me this morning for a meeting and I have this on the agenda to discuss. Really can't understand this one but hopefully, we will get clarification this morning. I will update the forum later.

Just to back up Stephen's post, the status reported by the dslchecker.bt.com has not been updated to show FTTC as available. I suspect that until this is rectified, the delay sits with Openreach rather than the retail ISPs.

Looking forward to an update after the meeting - hopefully no biscuits for BT :-) !

I have to agree with Stephen Creasey's comment on BT dragging their heels. There's still no signs on the ground of BT relocating my local cabinet after making a blunder with it's original location.
#32
Good Afternoon Mike/Steve

Further to this morning's meeting, the cabinet has definately been activated and upgraded. Because it is an Exchange Only (EO) rearrangement, the records take longer to go through the system.
In essence, despite it being technically ready, they declared it available to ISPs a little too soon. Clearly, this was an error but they assure me it will be available very soon.

My apologies for the ongoing delays.

Still do progress. I'm just a little suspicious about BT's explanation because the line was showing as connected to the new cabinet just a couple of days after the completion of the on site work - I'd have thought that that was the difficult bit. What we seem to be waiting for is for the cabinet to be shown as supporting FTTC - in common with any other cabinet upgrade.

Can you press them for a little more detail at the next meeting?

Thanks

Mike
#34
Good Morning Mike,

BT are adamant that all engineering is complete and it's just a case of all ISPs bringing their systems up to dat to show the availability of FTTC. They made that the comment that because the cabinet removed Exchange Only lines, the process is more elongated.

I don't disbelieve this but I have asked them not announce anything to us until customers can upgrade. I suspect they jumped the gun on this one and I will push them again this week for a completion date.

Steve

Customers connected via Metheringham Cabinet 13 are now able to place orders.

Thanks to Steve and the team for making this happen. In many parts of the UK customers with lines connected directly to the exchange are left with no realistic prospect of enjoying fibre-grade broadband, along with the TV and other services which will very soon start to be regarded as 'normal'. I'm very much aware of how much work it has taken to deliver this improvement for Metheringham, and for all of the other Lincolnshire locations where similar upgrades are taking place.

Installation booked for 29th October. I feel like organising a street party.

Mike

Hello,
Forgive me if I am posting in the wrong place. This is my first post!
I am apparently connected to Cabinet 7. That sounds hopeful. How do I find out just where this cabinet is situated, please?

Also I am a bit confused by the terminology. The BT site mentions Clean and Impacted. If I am connected to the Cabinet by copper then does that count as Impacted?

Many thanks for your guidance.

Good Morning Mike,

Cab. 12 off Metheringham falls into Phase 6 of this project and on that basis, will be upgraded between April 2015 and September 2015.

as we get closer to the start date for the phase, we will get a clearer view of exactly when the cab. will be completed.

Please do keep in touch and we will be happy to keep you updated.

Why am I only getting 19MBPS on fibre when I used to get over 16Mbps on ADSL. I cannot get a straight answer from BT

Good Morning John,

That isn't great news. Can you please tell me what BT has actually said. Happy for you to E Mail to my E Mail account if you prefer to keep information private.

Bt are looking to complete sometime during September and as we get closer to that time, we should have a clearer view.

Good Morning,

I have only just found this forum and was wondering if there is any update for Cabinet 6 on Metheringham exchange (BT Wholesale reports that as the cabinet I am connected to).

Any information would be greatly received.

Thanks

Hello Andy

Would you possibly be able to email your full address to onlincolnshire@lincolnshire.gov.uk so that we can check a few things out for you, such as distance to the cabinet, which will greatly affect availability?

Kind regards

Good afternoon,

I would like to know when/if the remaining properties in Nocton will obtain superfast broadband. There are three cabinets from the Metheringham Exchange (SLMIM) currently serving Nocton:
Cab 3 (FTTC enabled) GR 056625 that feeds 528 premises, mainly in Dunston; Pillar 3/2 (not FTTC enabled) GR 058641 that feeds 210 premises in Nocton; Cab 12 (FTTC enabled) GR 058646 that feeds 62 premises in Nocton.

I understand Pillar 3/2 will be amalgamated into a new cabinet (Cab 16) and this will be fibre enabled. This work is due to be completed by 31st March 2016. I have been told the new cab "is stood and power is supplied", yet this is most odd as there is no evidence of any new cabinet in the vicinity of Pillar 3/2, or even within the curtilage of Nocton!

On a more personal note, my own BT line is linked through Cabinet 3 and whilst this is fibre enabled it is 2.5km away from my cottage, which means I cannot get superfast broadband. However, Pillar 3/2 is within 50 metres of the telegraph pole taking my line, so I am hoping this will be re-routed to the new Cab 16 so I can get the faster broadband service.

Please will you look into this matter and let the Nocton residents have a comprehensive reply on what is happening for this village and where the new Cab 16 is located.

Many thanks,
Geoff Hall

Good Morning Geoff,

I visited Nocton yesterday to take a look for myself and despite being assured the DSLAM at SCP 3/2 was up and powered, it very obviously wasn't. Further investigation has revealed that the DSLAM is actually situated at SCP 3/1. Clearly this is an error that BT has recognised and I have assurances that they are meeting with their supplier this morning to fast-track the build at 3/2.
When we get the output from the meeting, we will be a little clearer on the next steps and will update the website accordingly. Please accept my apologies for this, but we are working to meet existing timescales.
In terms of your actual connection, the physical re-configuration of existing infrastructure comes under a set of regulations that refer to 'Equivalence'. In other words, if BT move an existing routing for themselves, or indeed another ISP, they are obligated to preovide this facility for any other line that requires it and on that basis, they keep away from it.
Having said that, it may well be that they amalgamate all lines in Nocton en masse and this is something that they can possibly do under certain conditions.

Regards
Steve

Do you have any further information from BT regarding the pilar 3/2 update in Nocton. Is there any chance of it being up by the 31st of March 2016 ?

Dear Steve,
After your meeting with the BT team is there any update on the completion date of the cabinet in Nocton ? It is good to know a site has been agreed for the cabinet now .
#57
Good Morning Manu

BT are still saying the end of March, but realistically I think we are looking at mid-April before we can order services. BT has committed to completing as fast as they possibly can so we may get it a little earlier and we will have another look in the middle of this week and update accordingly.
