Birchwood Cabinet 63

#1
Is there any news when this rather forgotten cabinet will be updated please? It serves an area of the industrial estate off the Doddington Road and it's depressing that the exchange has been enabled for years, the housing estate opposite is well served and yet the business community, who generally pay more for the provision anyway, is not being catered for at this cabinet.

Many thanks, Paul

Good Morning Paul,

Thanks for taking time to write to us.

Birchwood, Cabinet 63 falls within Phase 5 of this programme and will be upgraded between the end of this month and the end of June. At the end of the month, we should have a clearer view of exactly when we are expecting to complete this cabinet, so please do keep in touch and we will be happy to update you as we move forward.

I can hardly wait ;-) Circa 3 years after the original promise date when we moved in something tangible to work with. That's really good news Stephen, I'd appreciate an update early in Feb.

Morning Steve

Any updates regarding this cabinet yet please? BT are after us to renew an existing contract and I'll be darned if I'm going to do that if FTTC is really on it's way for sure this time.

Thanks, Paul

Good Afternoon Paul,

We are still on to complete before the end of June and at this point, I can see no reason why we will not do so.
I should get a clearer picture of actual delivery date around March/April, but all ok at the moment.

HI Steve

Thought I'd leave you alone until the end of April before nagging ;-) Has there been any update regarding this cabinet yet please. Many thanks, Paul

Hi Steve

Can you please advise the latest forecast for this cabinet? Is end of June still possible? If not what's the new projection and is if needed, is this projection realistic? If not I'll have to consider leased line - rather expensive but I'm fed up with BT and broken promises.

Thanks, Paul

Good Afternoon Paul,

BT are still sticking with 30th June and there is nothing that we are aware of prevents this at this point in time.

I will chase them again at this thursday's meeting to ensure it's still on track.

Thanks Steve

Hopefully this time they come through - it's galling that BB performance at home in a village is better than at work on an established industrial park (lucky at home perhaps)

Fingers crossed - I could do without the leased line expense.

Hello Steve

What on earth is the excuse this time from BT? Over three years ago they promised fibre to our office and now in the space of one month we've gone from on target for the end of June to what I can easily interpret as 'you'll be lucky to see anything by the end of the year'. It's a total joke - nice to see that the BT local business cabinet has been completed but not the one at our end - I'm sick of it. Given that there is a perfectly operational fibre within touching distance of the office (perhaps 10 yards) what can be the problem?

Please elaborate and try if you can to give me a realistic predication - I wouldn't mind but if they'd been truthful in the first place I'd have installed a leased line by now and had decent use from it prior to fibre availability.

Unbelievable that they are allowed to stay in business.

Thanks, Paul

Good Morning Paul.

I have asked BT for chapter and verse and will update this page when I get their reply.

Thanks Steve, I'd appreciate that. Leased line costs aren't insignificant but with this kind of treatment by BT I'm losing the will to trust them anymore - and they currently have the temerity to keep calling me to renew my contract with them! Not much hope of that with this kind of treatment!

It might be a small cabinet - but small cabinet does not directly equate to small need or small data throughput requirements. Perhaps they deem our end of the estate to be full of dumb-assed low tech businesses? (read lots of sarcasm there not a serious comment!).

I'm very unhappy as I guess you can sense.

Look forward to an update

Evening Steve

Would you please update this thread so that I better understand the issue and perhaps draw some form of conclusion as to the likelihood of BT keeping to this latest date?

Thanks, Paul

Good Morning Paul,

We are having some problems with the provision of the cable to the new cabinet. BT are quoting duct blockages as the primary issue. They assure me that they are dealing wiuth this and working with Highways to resolve as soon as possible. They are looking at October as a completion date, but we will press them to complete sooner if at all possible.

Thanks Steve,

I won't celebrate just yet but at least this gives me a sound indication that they (BT) are actually attempting to do something rather than simply issuing promises they cannot and don't keep.
Fingers crossed - I'll pester you again next month :-)

HI Steve

The update in the weekly progress report hasn't changed recently - is there any further news please (like have they actually complete the cabling yet and if not, what's the latest prognosis). I've quotes on my desk for a fibre leased line - looks like that's the only way I'm going to achieve a decent connection unless BT come through soon. (mind you, I wonder how much capacity the Birchwood exchange has left and whether or not this new cabinet will be 'full' before it's released.
Any news welcomed - as you can imagine, fibre leased lines aren't cheap.

Good morning Paul,

Thank you for your continuing patience.

BT assure me it will be completed during this month, so realistically, I read that as towards the end of this month.

we will try to nail them down to something more specific when we meet them later this week and update accordingly.

Hello Steve

I think I need to lie down for a while. This month - that would be something special - I can hold off the leased line deals until then and see what we can get from the fttc delivery. Really good news, thank you.

Look forward to their more specific update later in the week or if worst happens, an update from you once you've seen the 'whites of their eyes!'. Seriously, if they seem to be blagging - please tell me and I'll make alternate arrangements - funny thing is I can probably split the leased line costs with at least two other parties here so they (BT) really are messing everyone around [that's four broadband contracts and four phone line contracts they could lose in one single strike.

Catch up later I hope. Best, Paul

Hi Steve - did your meeting a few weeks ago give any cause for concern or are we, in your opinion, still on for completion this week (end of October)?

Many thanks, Paul

Hello Steve
May I please ask why the date for completion has slipped out yet another week and is the new date now fixed or still subject to movement?

Thanks, Paul
#22
Good Morning Paul,

Ongoing engineering difficulties I'm afraid, but they are confident that this be the final hurdle, so we should be looking good for that date.

Thanks Steve. Engineering difficulties? Openereach were here only yesterday blowing two fibres to two new POP's right outside our building so heaven only knows what hassle they've been having elsewhere. I look forward to it actually happening at last and hope that it lives up to expectation.

Good Morning Paul,

BT resource I suspect, more specifically, their contract resource who are scaling down for Xmas. I will see if we can get this done before Xmas if at all possible.
