Rumour of existing fibre in Irby in the Marsh

#1
Dear OL,

RE: Irby in the Marsh (post code PE24 5AY).

1. RUMOUR THERE IS ALREADY A FIBRE CABLE IN IRBY IN THE MARSH:

There is a rumour that a fibre cable has already been laid by BT as part of a connection BT made from a School in Great Steeping (to the west), all the way to Wainfleet in the East.

I understand the fibre cable may be under/adjacent to Wainfleet Road going right through the village.

If this is true, then all we need is BT to erect a new cabinet adjacent to their existing fibre and the whole village, which currently recieves 1mbps as its connected to a cabinet several miles away, can get faster broadband!

Here is wainfleet road:

Please can you have a chat about this message with openreach to establish the facts!

2. WHAT HAPPENS AFTER A NEW CABINET IS INSTALLED

If a new cabinet is installed in our village, how do we get BT to connect our existing copper phone lines to the new cabinet?

Good Morning Duncan,

We have asked BT to look at Irby In The Marsh via what we call a Change Request. In other words, additional work within the existing contrat using underspend. The Change Request has been submitted, I'm told it's approved, but I am still waiting for the signed document to come back to me. As soon as it arrives, (supposedly later this week), I will have a better idea of when/if we are going to carry out additional work.

If this work is done as requested, then you should get much better speeds.

As soon as we get something, we will publish it.

Regards
Steve

UPDATE

Hi Steve, couple of things; I think the rumour of fibre cable in Irby in the mash may have been just a rumour as I saw a BT cabinet in Great Steeping near the school in question this morning. I did see some openreach vans on wainfleet road so who knows. What I would say is we own several acres of land in Irby in the Marsh and may be willing to provide a free location for a BT cabinet. Furthermore, the village hall is at PE245DQ and I am sure they would consider making a similar offer to provide a site for a new cabinet.Failing that, I know the locals here (including farmers) so we if BT need a cabinet site I'm happy to help.

Hi Duncan,

Thanks very much for the update and particularly for the generous offer. I will pass this to BT for them to look into.
