2013: The Onlincolnshire story so far

This year has been a very busy one for the Onlincolnshire team, who has been working hard to demonstrate the benefits of superfast broadband for residents and businesses across the county.

We created this video to show you what we’ve done so far:

In March, Lincolnshire County Council signed a £48 million contract with BT to provide superfast broadband infrastructure to almost 90% of county properties by 2016.

BT is building on the existing telecoms infrastructure in the county so that at least 88% of all properties should have access to superfast broadband by April 2016, with the council aiming for everyone else to have access to at least of 2Mbps broadband.

On top of the main roll out of superfast broadband, Lincoln firm AB Internet has been chosen for two pilot projects that will make faster broadband available sooner in two areas on the East Coast. They use fixed wireless technology to improve the current broadband offering to a level that is over twice the current national average.

The Ingoldmells Fantasy Island attraction was the first in the Onlincolnshire project to enjoy new superfast broadband via wireless technology.

Also, More than 1,400 homes and businesses in Spalding can now sign up for high-speed, fibre broadband. They were the first to benefit from the multi-million pound partnership between Lincolnshire County and District councils, BT and the government.

To demonstrate the capabilities of superfast broadband and technology, we are opening a number of technology hubs across the country so that residents and businesses can get to know and test the latest technology.

Our free Technology Hubs in Mablethorpe, Boston and Louth are really taking off already. Find out more about how they work and how they can help you.

Meanwhile, this year an additional £2.1 million of funding has been secured to enhance superfast coverage in the Lincolnshire Broadband Programme.

The funding boost will enhance our coverage within the identified target intervention areas and deliver additional economic benefits by further improving the level of speed ‘uplift’ through our contract with BT.
