Lincolnshire County Council sign contract with BT for phase 2 broadband deployment

21st May 2015

On 13th May 2015, Lincolnshire County Council (LCC) signed a contract with BT, under the BDUK Framework Agreement for the provision of a second phase to the Lincolnshire Broadband Programme, in line with Government objectives to extend Superfast broadband coverage to 95% of UK premises before the end of 2017.

This second contract (Phase 2) will further extend Superfast broadband coverage across the county and will commence on 1st April 2016, following completion of the current broadband project. These timescales align with the current national BDUK/BT agreement regarding Phase 2 deployment.

BT has provided a response to the LCC Invitation to Tender indicating that they will extend Superfast coverage across Lincolnshire by an additional 4801 premises, whilst extending overall access to fibre broadband by a total of 6098 premises.

At this point in time, whilst we have indicative areas of coverage, LCC and BT are about to commence detailed discussions to finalise the coverage area. This is planned to complete by the end of July, at which point, LCC will provide mapping and details via their onlincolnshire website.

It should be emphasised that actual postcode coverage areas and numbers of premises covered are potentially subject to change, both before the start of and during the lifecycle of Phase 2, as greater detail emerges from the outcomes of the current contract in terms of actual coverage achieved and any residual funding that may exist. Additionally, BT has indicated their willingness to consider the deployment of alternative technologies to further improve coverage, if and when they become available.

Please note, at this point in time, West Lindsey District is excluded from Phase 2, but this position may well change in the near future. The exclusion from Phase 2 is a result of a BDUK decision relating to a commercial agreement between West Lindsey District Council and a Fixed Wireless broadband provider. Discussions are ongoing in an effort to clarify and resolve this issue and we will update the website as and when the position changes.

We will publish regular updates as we move towards the commencement of Phase 2.
