Onlincolnshire and AB Internet have joined forces to bring superfast broadband to Skegness Pier.
The east-coast attraction is the latest big name to sign-up for better broadband, meaning it can now offer visitors free wi-fi.
This has been made possible thanks to a new wireless broadband service, created by onlincolnshire and AB Internet, that offers superfast broadband to residents and businesses on the east coast.
The project received £300,000 from the European Regional Development Fund.
Councillor Colin Davie, Executive Member for Economic Development, said: “Good broadband is becoming more and more essential for both businesses and residents. That’s why local councils are investing heavily in improving connections across the county.
“Over the next couple of years broadband speeds will dramatically increase everywhere in Lincolnshire. So we’re also providing a range wide of support to help local businesses make the most of what better broadband has to offer.”
Last year, AB Internet installed four fixed wireless sites, with three others due to complete before the end of May 2014. This will provide better broadband coverage to over 10,000 premises.
To enjoy improved speeds people simply have to sign up for one of AB Internet’s packages, which range from a cost-conscious 2Mb through to a faster 50Mbps internet service.
Neil Tucker, sales and marketing director for AB Internet, said: “The county council has led the way in the UK by championing AB Internet’s cutting-edge way of delivering superfast broadband services. It’s proving to be a ‘game-changer’ for businesses and an absolute ‘life-changer’ for residents. As a Lincolnshire-based company, we’re absolutely delighted to be playing such a part in our own community.”
Carolyn Wilkinson, joint managing director for Skegness Pier, added: “We are delighted that our customers can now enjoy superfast broadband. Now we have re-opened our new Qubica AMF Bowling Centre and new Laserquest arena here at Skegness Pier it is what our customers would expect at such a top-class attraction”.
