This week, future tech showcase from BBC as a trial of UltraHD streaming over 4G begins, Google is looking to expand its superfast fibre network in the UK, and BT will start operating as a mobile network again, but only for businesses.

4G streaming and Ultra HD in BBC R&D Commonwealth showcase

The first UK trial of live broadcasting over 4G, Ultra HD and 3D audio will be seen as part of a BBC R&D showcase in Glasgow next week, timed to coincide with the Commonwealth Games, which is being staged in the city.

Google Fiber on its way to the UK - once it finds the right provider

Broadband speeds up to a 100 times faster than those currently available could be available to UK consumers following rumours that Google is exploring ways to bring its superfast fibre optic networks to the UK. The search giant is reportedly in talks with several companies to bring its Google Fiber network, capable of download speeds of up to 1Gbps, to the UK later this year.

BT to start operating as a mobile network again

BT is coming back to the mobile market, with a new service that brings your mobile, home and work phone together in one place — your smartphone. The service is called BT One Phone, and it's aimed at small and medium-sized businesses.
